logoJuice Portable 2.2.2.1 has been released. Juice is a podcast receiver that will download and manage your podcast subscriptions. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 Beta 5 users who already have this app installed, simply click 'Check for Updates' in your PA.c Menu to update to the new version.

Features

ScreenshotJuice allows you to download and manage your various podcast subscriptions. It has a large built-in directory of podcasts (though some are no longer active). You can play a downloaded podcast directly in Windows Media Player.

By default, Juice will save your podcasts to JuicePortable\Data\Downloaded Podcasts. You can alter this directory in the options. It should be noted that while you are downloading and saving files to a USB flash drive, performance of other portable apps will slow.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Juice Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

I wanted to say a quick thanks to Kevin Porter for his work on the old version of this. The app has since been updated and I completely redid the launcher using the PortableApps.com Launcher to better handle portability and address some shortcomings within the app itself.

On the download button it says 5 Mb, I have repeatedly only received 1.07

We're sorry, but this release is temporarily unavailable due to issues with SourceForge's download servers. We have an issue reported in with SourceForge and will update when it is available.

We're temporarily hosting this one ourselves until the SourceForge issue are sorted. So it's available for download now.

I'm a bit surprised that I cannot select one of the portable players from pa.c.
The choice is limited to iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp and No player.
Isn't it a bit of a contradiction that I have to resort to install-ware in order to play the media files gathered with a portable podcast receiver?
Are there any plans to include a selection of pa.c portable players in the near future?
On the short term I could live with opening the download folder through a context menu option and double click the media file. Expresso will then take care of opening it in my preferred pa.c player. (Expresso works nicely for me. It occasionally hangs (= does not launch my preferred app), but a Refresh always fixed this so far.)

The app itself only has those choices internally (and doesn't even have a choice to use the system default). The app isn't maintained at the moment but as it is open source, we'd love if we could find a developer to take it over and add those features in.

I'm a fan of pa.c
