Comments
Revision 2
Due to a bug in RedNotebook 1.2.0 (the HOME environment variable no longer works), the data directory was included in the App directory in the original release. 1.2.0. Rev 2 corrects this error and repoints it to the Data directory so that data is not lost on future upgrades and users upgrading from previous versions continue to see the proper journal. If you used 1.2.0 and made any journal entries in the last 9 hours, please copy them out and then resave them after upgrading to 1.2.0 Rev 2 to ensure you don't lose anything.
Support link
Hi, thanks for your work on packaging the app guys. The link on https://portableapps.com/apps/office/rednotebook_portable to the RedNotebook forum should be removed as this forum is deprecated. You could add a link to RedNotebook Answers: https://answers.launchpad.net/rednotebook
button
just a quick note: The download button's tooltip on https://portableapps.com/apps/office/rednotebook_portable says "Download WinDjView Portable".
Some remarks
I downloaded RedNotebook Portable for the first time (1.2 rev2) and had a look at it, because some people reported issues about it. Here are some remarks:
The directory RedNotebookPortable\App\DefaultData\.rednotebook\data is not empty, but already contains a file with some entries. This dir should be empty.
The stuff under RedNotebookPortable\App\DefaultData\usersettings should be removed as well. Those files will be generated by RedNotebook at runtime and should not be given any (possibly wrong) defaults. The dir even already contains a log.
I think the setup can be greatly simplified if you remove the directory "hacks" and add userDir=../../DATA/ in RedNotebookPortable\App\RedNotebook\files\default.cfg. You must leave portable=1 there. If you do that, the first journal will be created under RedNotebookPortable\DATA\data and all the user files (templates, logs, tmp dir) will live under RedNotebookPortable\DATA. No additional copying of directories or files is needed.
If I do this change it becomes clear that the long loading is a portable apps issue. When I run RedNotebookPortable\App\RedNotebook\redNotebook.exe the program loads in
I reported
these to john as he was the one that created the installer a few builds ago. Which seems to be when the issue first started. He has not responded to me. I will be looking at re-working the ini and install file later on this week
Will Fix
I'll take a look at this and put out a revision to fix these issues.
I think I found issue
Way back when I sent an update and forgot to pre-configure the program, John you fixed it by using the launcher config as opposed to me using the programs config. All further updates I pre-configured using program but used your launcher. I think that this whole issue may be my fault.
Fix
It doesn't matter whose fault it is, let's just get it fixed. You wanna make the fix and build it?
working on it as we speak
was not laying blame, was just stating that I thought I had found the issue
I know
I thought you were blaming yourself. I was telling you it didn't matter
Been trying
for hours, I can not incorporate the fixes you originally created John to the launcher into the corrected version per the software. If I do it will break the previous fixes and make previously saved files not open correctly. I have no idea how to fix this at this point. The added files created by the launcher that you re-wrote do not get seen by the software when I fix things the way that they should be. I give up! For the betterment of the program and the community I am giving this app up and am asking you to fix it.
I'll Look At It
I'll look at it in a few hours and get it working, then. Once I fix it, you can take it back, though.
Any luck?
Or should I keep trying?
Cool
I think its cool that another dev of an app posts here. Its a wee bit sad that its because something doesnt work, but its nice nevertheless.
