McAfee Stinger Portable has been released. McAfee Stinger removes 6,000 common viruses and 'fake alert' malware on-demand. It is not a replacement for a full antivirus, but handy in many situations. This release updates to the latest version and corrects an issue where McAfee Stinger would leave a service behind. It's packaged in Format so it can easily integrate with the Platform. McAfee Stinger is freeware for business and personal use.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the Platform.

While not a replacement for full fledged antivirus software, Stinger is updated multiple times a week to include detection for newer Fake Alert variants and prevalent viruses.

Story Topic:

Some time ago, McAfee Stinger was removed from the site, because it started installing a service and leaving residue, without getting confirmation, or even notifying about this. I see now that Stinger is back. So, has McAfee repented?

McAfee fixed the leave behind bug and added a command line switch to disable use/install of the service entirely.
