fscPortable 5.3 has been released. fscPortable assists you with running FastStone Capture in a portable way without needing to install it in Windows so you can capture your screen on the go. It's packaged as a portable app so you communicate on the go and it's in Format so it can easily integrate with the Platform. It's released as freeware for personal use.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the Platform.

ScreenshotFastStone Capture is a screen capture utility. You can capture the whole screen, a specific window, or a specific area to a variety of file formats and even perform basic editing. This package includes the last fully freeware version of FastStone Capture. As such, it does not work as well with modern Windows' shadowed window edges. For best performance with modern Windows, you can purchase the current release of FastStone Capture which is shareware.

fscPortable is packaged in a Installer so it will automatically detect an existing installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in Format, so it automatically works with the Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Yes, we know, but it is like this for a very good reason. After 5.3 the license was changed from freeware to a 30 day limited trial, so we can't legally release any version after 5.3.

Hi Ken, I suspected a reason like this... thanks for the response!

I've looked at a number of screen-scrapers, and FastStone Capture is the best, even at version 5.3. And yes, that was the last version licensed as freeware (for personal use).

John, I am curious: Is the PortableApps version just to keep the registry clean? I've always used FastStone Capture 5.3 simply by unzipping its installation archive and running it.

It's for the format for ease of install and consistent backups for users.
