PortableApps.com has released PortableApps.com Application Template 3.5.2. The template is a zip file containing a complete portable application folder structure and configuration files as defined in the PortableApps.com Format 3.5 Specification. The template includes fully commented configuration examples for handling apps that use the registry, that store files or folders on the local machine within APPDATA, that take a command line to point an app to its configuration, that use an environment variable to point an app to specific directories, and that use files or folders in their own directory. A how to guide walks developers through the process of configuring it for an individual app. Complete configurations for adjusting paths within the app and to associated files as the app is moved to other drives or paths via syncing a cloud folder are also included and commented. There is even a default launcher included so you can get started without needing to compile the launcher.

This release fixes minor grammar and spelling mistakes and adds a 64-bit variant of the base app id alongside the update to the PortableApps.com Format specification.

There are also complete instructions for finalizing the build, customizing the application name, AppID, and installer, and compiling the finalized launcher and packaging it in a PortableApps.com Installer for testing or release distribution.

We're actively seeking suggestions on making the process even easier as well. You can contribute suggestions in the PortableApps.com Application Template 3.5.2 forum thread and download the new template from the PortableApps.com Development section.
