The Open Wiki - Ideas & Help for my Site

Okay, a while back I posted before I got my site with some ideas I had for it, I've decided to ditch most of them, and combine the rest into one idea.

My site's located at http://nascent-project.org. Currently, there's nothing there but a blank MediaWiki installation and a couple pages. Here's what I have for the site.

The Idea

I'm thinking of calling the site 'The Open Wiki' and it's going to be a MediaWiki powered site based all around and about Open Source. I'm thinking 'The Open Wiki' because not only is it obviously a wiki that anyone can edit, but it's all based on and about Open Source. For a tagline, I'm thinking 'Your Source for Open Source!' :). I was thinking on the main page maybe having a 'Release of the Week' area that shows a open source project release of that week. It will also have lists of Open Source Software, Open Formats, Open Everything. Smile I'm thinking maybe Wikipedia style articles for Open Source Projects, including those that are small projects hosted on a personal site, but deserve a Wikipedia style article. Once I get working on it with lots of help, I was going to have an RSS feed where you can publish Recently Release Open Source Software into the feed. Last night when I described this to Ryan breifly, he pointed me to Freshmeat. I knew about Freshmeat, but it's not open enuff. How can you have a site about Open Source releases, etc when the site itself is not all that open?

The Design

I'm looking for lots of volunteers to work on this with me. I'll be taking a break from PortableApps and other stuff for a while. I need a good solid formatting solution something like LyricWiki for the home page. I will also need a well thought out, creative logo, I have no good idea for that so far.

The Name

Does The Open Wiki work for everyone? If you have a better name and/or tagline idea, please let me know.

The Content

Any other main content ideas you think I should add let me know.

Thanks, and again I'd appreciate as much help as I can get. And some PHP developers for the feed software I have in mind.

Thanks!

Well

Also FOSSWiki sounds like a good possibility. But OpenWiki still works fine.

Great.

Open Wiki sounds great. My only opposition is that it's a wiki, as you know my position on wikis :p.

If it's not a Wiki

I'd feel like a hypocrite making a site on open source that isn't open. Smile

That may be true...

But I still don't like wikis .

Well,

I can do the templates and tables (etc.) for the homepage, it's pretty easy.
