VLC: settings

I have PortableApps suite on a USB stick installed and copied my language settings
(Dutch) from a local installation of Firefox and Thunderbird as well as my profile settings, works like a charm.
But when I install VLC portable and some MP3 files (room enough it's a 4GB stick)I met various problems installing the player (read/write errors)
I just tried again and again, finally I had a proper install.
But I lost all my settings,add-ons and accounts in Firefox&Thunderbird luckily I had a backup.
I reïnstalled about 5 or 6 times now but the problem persists.
Everything works fine as long as I don't install VLC portable.
I have no problems installing VLC portable anymore but I can't
use it because it ruins everything else.

support

I'm not familiar with support forums or other kind of forums whatsoever and I noticed that you want to keep it that way.

Keep up the good work :))

if you have a backup of you

if you have a backup of you thunderbird and firefox then remove them off you flash
then install VLC and check to see if it runs properly
after you make sure it is working. Add firefox and thunderbird to your flash and run those
tell me how it works

also people will try and help you whenever they can, and make sure you searched, because it gets annoying for other users to answer the same question multiple times.
what you did was also considered bumping (i believe)
so remember not do do that
thanks

thnx, what's bumping? I don't want your answer or help anymore

[This entire post is a quote of a recent post by John, I have added the quotes, and this note, to make it clear. I'm not sure of the posters intent, mod Tim]

"Greetings all,

I wanted to make a brief post about some attitudes in the forums. Most often this shows up as a harsh post or two directed at a new or less experienced user when they ask a commonly-asked question without searching or request an app with a license that makes it legally impossible for us to package. Sometimes it shows up as some negative comments directed towards someone you disagree with when you're frustrated from having to deal with the former type of user. Other times it's just plain old "having a bad day and posting when you shouldn't".

I'm not looking to name any names as it's happened to quite a few of us over the years. I know I've certainly been guilty of all three in the past. But there were some incidents a couple months ago that made me want to at least say something about it publicly.

For anyone that's been on the receiving end of any of these posts or attitudes from anyone else here, especially me on a bad day, I'd like to offer my sincere apology. It's not fair and it's not something you should have experienced while on this site.

On a positive note, these types of posts and interactions have been far fewer and further between within the last couple months. I know I've been making a concerted effort to never "post angry", and it seems others have been as well. Some of our new moderators have also been doing an excellent job of helping keep the peace even when there's some tension in viewpoints. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank them again for their continued hard work.

So, in closing, I'd like to remind everyone to:

1. Be helpful to new users... even if the question has been asked 100 times. Offer up the answer, include a link to the solution on the app homepage, support page, FAQ or forums. And close with a polite suggestion to search ("And a quick suggestion for next time: you may find your answer more quickly if you use the handy search feature in the top right of the page. Many times, your question has already been asked and answered by another member of the site. So, if you do a search, you'll get your answer right away." or something along those lines.) Saying "SEARCH FIRST" is simply not acceptable.
2. Always assume ignorance over malice. If someone's post could be taken one way or the other, give them the benefit of the doubt. 90% of communication is non-verbal, so we lose a lot in something like a forum.
3. Never post angry. If a post upsets or annoys you, do not post until you've gotten over that anger/annoyance. If you can't help but be angry or annoyed at a certain post, please avoid responding to it entirely.

I'm sure there are some other suggestions that can be offered. And I'd love to hear from others on ideas for ensuring that all users, new and old, can feel welcome here at PortableApps.com and will want to stick around and contribute as we grow.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards,
John"

my reply to your post basically was a possible answer to your question I in no way said SEARCH FIRST!!!!
only after that did i say...

also people will try and help you whenever they can, and make sure you searched, because it gets annoying for other users to answer the same question multiple times.
what you did was also considered bumping (i believe)
so remember not do do that

here i responded to your post where u were commenting on the face no one answered (i think)
so i told u possible reasons that people did not answer you to quote from john

If you can't help but be angry or annoyed at a certain post, please avoid responding to it entirely.

so maybe people were annoyed by your post and did not reply, or maybe no one knew the answer and could not reply.

finally i said that what you did was bumping because you posted then commented on your own post to move back up.

I did nothing wrong in what i did. you come back 4 months later just to berate me with a post that was put up after i replied, so if you didnt think of this i will make it clear for you

THERE IS NO WAY I COULD HAVE USED THAT POST AS A REFERENCE

once again

THERE IS NO WAY I COULD HAVE USED THAT POST AS A REFERENCE
There was obviously nothing wrong with the help i gave being that you did not respond saying it did not work...
And Finally...
so why the hell would i care if you want my help or not?

Please search before posting. ~Thanks

Breathe

Although your last post was fine, this one is clearly the type of post referenced in the above quote. Remember, someone may have misinterpreted what you said and taken it hostily. Give them the benefit of the doubt and respond kindly unless it's obvious that they are purposely trying to bait you (in which case a moderator should probably step in).

Posting angry is a bad idea. Feeling the need to post whole sentences in caps is usually an indication that you're posting angry (at least it has been in my case).

How about we all step back from this part of the thread and just continue on with the analysis and problem fixing?

Hardware / Logical Errors

What you're experiencing is usually a result of hardware or logical errors on a drive. You can check for logical errors with checkdisk (right-click on the drive in Explorer, properties, Tools tab, Check Now). What I would suggest is pulling all your data off the drive and reformatting. Then try again a piece at a time. If you're still experiencing problems, then there is probably a hardware issue with either the drive itself or the USB port of the PC (usually because it is underpowered).
