Pidgin: 2.2.2

no complaints here. thank you very much for Pidgin Portable.

fyi (in case you didn't know), 2.1.1 is fairly unstable in certain circumstances. and 2.2.2. fixes many stability problems.

peace,
david

Can't we update it manually

Can't we update it manually with the original file, keeping the Pidgin Portable launcher ?

you can try

but if they introduced new features, they maybe added some registry key and the launcher would have to be updated to take care of that.

Should work

Well after a quick scan through the registry i found nothing that would make any difference. Go for it!. I'm downloading the installer right now as we speak so that i can try it out myself. I just realized im still on 2.2.1 on my desktop anyways. Should be no reason this wont work, as it doesnt appear to have any registry changes, only problem you might encounter is if Pidgin Portable does not take care of EVERY file in the settings directory. I've done quite a lot of NSIS scripting and am fairly adept with it. Ill read through the source and see if anything is missing for the 2.2.2. But i'd say nothing that drastic has changed and it cant hurt to try!

Just like to mention, I

Just like to mention, I tried copying over the Program Files\Pidgin directory over to my Pidgin Portable installation and everything works perfect! Unless I am overlooking something nothing drastic has changed and you should be fine doing this for the time being until his next release.

...

well 2.1.1 is not unstable, lol :D, if upgrading is that important (should be for msn users since 2.2.2 fixes remote exploit) and you cant wait for it to be updated for PAM format, you "should" check out https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#RunningWindowsPidginFrom...

2.x.x -> 2.3.0 a matter of unzipping pidgin-2.3.0-win32-bin.zip

I know it's not "official" and may cause problems at some point, but I just unzipped pidgin-2.3.0-win32-bin.zip from:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=235

overwriting U:\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin within my existing PidginPortable installation, and it seems to be working perfectly.

YMMV.
