Set Thunderbird Portable as the default email client
The whole point of using Portable Software is to NOT install it! If you want to make it the DEFAULT on a machine, INSTALL THE ORIGINAL VERSION. If I'm missing something here, please enlighten me.
But if he is trying to use the ThunderbirdPortable.exe, he might get away with it.
Depending on what you are trying to do, I think the key that you (OP) might look at
is
with some other keys pointing to it, but that is likely to be a fairly technical thing to get right. You could experiment with replacing what is there. But make a backup first.
I'd think it easier just to copy the email address and paste it into ThunderbirdPortable, rather than try to make it automatic.

Okay, I'll educate you. The reason is extremely obvious: the best of both worlds. Portability AND convenience at home. Not having to install it is not exactly the point. Precisely, portability is the point, hence the name Thunderbird Portable. Not having to install it is nice too, and also gives us the option to leave nearly zero trace of our email contents on the machines we're running Thunderbird Portable on, but some of us would rather have convenience over perfect untraceability.
