I'm going to be adding Spanish to the official lineup of languages supported, but, in the interest of efficiency and limited time, I'm only going to be supporting one variant to start. From my research, there are two main types. The first is Traditional Spanish, also referred to as Spanish (Spain) by many applications. The second is Modern Spanish, also referred to as Spanish (International) by many applications and Spanish (Argentina) by Mozilla, I think. From my research, it appears the modern/international variant has more speakers, but I wanted to run it by the community to see if someone else knows more about this than I do.

Here's the lowdown as best I know it:
Spanish (Spain)

Is - as the name suggests - the language as it is spoken (at least officially) in most parts of Spain. It can also be labeled as "Spanish (Native)".
Anyway, as oft happens with most languages, there are many regional dialects, but the most-spoken one of these variants is Castilian.
Spanish (International)
------------------------
Is - AFAIK - the variant spoken by most of the countries in Latin America: From the various Span-speaking countries is South America, to those in Central America, to (I beleive) North America (Mexico) and the Caribbean (

But I'm glad Spanish will be added as it's a common language.
So common in fact, that at one point there was a debate in the US on whether or not Spanish should become THE national language...
I have nothing against any Spanish speaking persons, but that whole debate was rediculous....when all the Germans came over 50 or 60 years ago, nobody even considered adopting German as THE official language, or even as a language that it would help people to know.

There may be regions where this is true, but the debate a few years back was to make Spanish the official language for the whole country....

Think about it. It's like voting to see if New York should break up NYC. International is what we're learning in Spanish class. Most people think of Spanish as in Mexico.

Then our tax $$ could go to support ourSELVES, instead of underwriting that rat-infested sinkhole excuse for a city.

I say we should use International, as more people speak it, and most that don't will be able to understand it (somewhat).

(sorry if I am wrong) I think the traditional/international diference is not about linguistics (there are many regional variants) but it is about keyboard layouts: the traditional alphabetization in Spain take the digraph "Ch" like a single character and international no. I may be wrong of course... By the way, I would prefer international.
