I'm still using .3 because .5 and .7 have those shadows around events that take up space and leave less room for events before a scrollbar happens. Isn't there a way to turn those off?

Since, this is a Sunbird issue (rather than a portable one) ask over at mozillaZine. I'd be willing to bet you can do this with a custom userchrome.css file, but I don't know Sunbird's interface well enough to create one.
