I have the odd problem that 92 items previously moved or deleted from my inbox repeatedly (but not always) keep reappearing in the inbox. It´s always the same 92! Those that have been moved are all still in their proper location, so the worst thing that can happen is that I end up with lots of duplicate copies, but it´s a bit weird and a bit of a nuisance.
Anyone got any ideas?

your mail files got messed up.
Close Thunderbird.
delete the inbox.msf in /data/profile/Mail/pop.servername/ (i am not 100% sure about the path).
That file stores which files are read/unread/deleted from your inbox.
reopen Thunderbird.
delete the 92 if they are still there.
compress your folders and they should be gone.

But whilst investigating another problem I managed to delete thunderbird including all of my mailboxes from the thumb drive. Happen to know a good free utility for recovery the files? I have a copy, but of course it´s out of date!
