Is Mr. Haller going to use another distro as his base or is he starting from the kernel? If so what distro?
This is discussed a lot. I believe Damn Small Linux is going to be one of the choices.
Remember, he's still trying to compile QEMU without FMOD. But an idea just struck my head. Why not use QEMU in the first place?

About the distro, when he does get it done.
Why not use QEMU? He is, he needs to remove the closed source sound though or else he can't host it on SourceForge.
If I remember correctly, Steve is working with him to replace FMOD with an open source sound component.

...I doubt it has a GUI and therefore "normal" users won't use it.
