Java JRE for Firefox

I know Java has already been discussed but i couldn't find what i want.

I have read that some people have made JRE portable by copying and pasting it and adding a batch file to the same directory.

I was wondering if someone would write a tutorial on how to do this, like what files to copy and what to put in the batch file that will make it work with firefox portable.

Thanks, it will be greatly appreciated.

Won't Work

The Java discussion is centered around working with Java apps and making them use a portable JRE. OpenOffice.org can do this to. As has been discussed multiple times, Firefox itself can NOT do this due to the way it detects a JVM. It will only work with a locally installed JVM. This may be overcome at some point in the future through either a custom-written plugin DLL (probably from Sun), a custom extension or an update to Firefox itself (by Mozilla) allowing it to look elsewhere for the JVM. This will require some development effort, of course. I know for myself, it's not a priority as I don't even use Java in the browser on my local PC, but there may be another developer out there with some personal interest.

Oh, and welcome to PortableApps.com Smile

I hope to post something in

I hope to post something in the beta forums tonight. If it works out, it might serve as a template for what you want to do. Probably won't work with Firefox, but it might help with some other things.
