XNView has been previously suggested. Last time is already some time ago, so I'd like to wake the old discussion again.
It is portable, yes. However, I haven't found a way of putting it into my PortableApps systray launcher.
Is this (or some other viever like Irfan) in the to-do list?

Unfortunately, while it is free for non-commercial use, it is not opensource, and thus cannot and will not be hosted through portableapps.com.
As for making it work with the PAM launcher, download the zipfile version, extract it, and copy the xnview folder that this produces into drive:\PortableApps - restart your menu, and it appears.... just tried it, and it works fine that way.
