I actually use audacity for that, but I'm not willing to spend hours making one lol.
I just went to a site where theres tons of song downloads for fof.
What are the system requirements for FretsOnFire? I can't get it working on a Windows 2000 box without administrative privileges. Is Admin required or is XP required? I can run it on XP with admin.
Oh, also your link to FretsOnFire at the top doesn't work for some reason. You might want to fix that.
This game is AWESOME! Guitar Hero-type stuff never really interested me, but this made me change my mind! Still, I think it'd be easier to play with an actual guitar controller... too bad they don't make ones for PCs.
I don't know if anyone mentioned it before but the AppInfo.ini states version 1.5.6.1 while the app exe displays 1.2.451. And the current version on the site mentiones v1.2.512.
well for the appinfo.ini one, i thought the version numbers there were for the launcher version not the regular app.
About using an older version, everyone on the (frets on fire)forums said that the newest version was very buggy. And to just use 1.2.451 so that is why i am using a slightly older version.
Ah so changing the AppInfo.ini version would make it perfect
Did you note what exact version that caused problems and if there were updates to it since you added the slightly older versions which may or may not fixed the problems? (Or was the current version already available when you started on the portable version)
The only problem I got with the current portable version is that is 'crashes' regulary with some C++ message saying the game exited abnormally.
The newest version of FretsOnFire (1.2.512), as posted before, is very buggy. One of the bugs in the game makes it impossible to load .png files. You might have noticed that the game uses .svg however many (most) graphical mods use the .svg files only as placeholders for their .png, as the game will load .png using an internal converter so the no-png bug makes it impossible to mod it decently. Another more important bug with the 1.2.512 comes from the packager for the windows version and it makes the game very unstable (the game crashes with what we now call the evil gmatrix33 or cx_freeze error)
Concerning your question about mod compatibility, if you are referring to the Guitar Hero theme included with rf-mod (theme that I originally released as raph's GHmod for 1.2.451) it should absolutely work as the portable FretsOnFire is based on the 1.2.451 version and I've read in previous replies that it is possible to install RF-mod on portable FretsOnFire, look in the replies to find where to put the replacement files. If you were referring to other GH inspired mods, I cannot tell for sure but I know that most of the newest mods (like UC mod, ds~ mod or Alarian's mod) are also based on 1.2.451.
I was considering doing that with the Pidgin splash originally but folks liked it better when it matched the others. Consistency looks good overall even if an individual splash would look a little cooler with the logo text.
It is a tad bland with just the black logo, though. Maybe I'll try a variation with the Frets on Fire full logo. I'll be back in a bit over an hour and post it then.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
What about filling the Meta font with a gradient? Maybe like red to orange, or red to yellow from bottom to top. The orange looks a little awkward. I'd say if you don't want gradient, change the orange to red... that is, if you're sticking with the mascot logo.
BonkEnc or BonkEnc Portable

Let's get this big boy to the pre-releases already, it's been ready for too long.

Just for the record. I tested this release (14), and it looks like issues with storing of svgs and such has been fixed.
quick question...

I believe the Xbox 360 controller will work with the PC, but otherwise, you would have to stick with the keyboard, or find another controller.
Simplifying daily life through technology
Yes, I've heard that as well. Also, they ported GH3 to windows, but I've also heard that its pretty bad, but you get a controller out of it.

the fof web site here : http://fretsonfire.wikidot.com/using-guitar-hero-controller
gives you instructions on how to use a wii guitar to play it... you just need a bluetooth enabled computer.

I know of many mods that need older versions. The Guitar Hero theme wont work on the new version. I wonder if it'll work with this.

Here's your splash with the logo:

Package it up as a pre-release and post it as a new topic.

not really sure if it would match up with how the other splashes are done, but how about having the splash screen like this instead?
