Depending on where you are

Depending on where you are and who the system administrator is, this could also be seen as illegal or at least looked down upon.

However, the Ophcrack liveCD can get windows passwords. they also have an installable version available, maybe that could be made portable.

I totally forgot about the

I totally forgot about the Ophcrack LiveCD. I checked into it again today, and it works great for XP systems as long as the LMHashes are not disabled (via registry). If they are, you have to buy the NTHashes tables, for $240.

In Vista, the LMHashes are disabled by default, doh.

There's another service for this. You have to wait 3 days for results though if you don't wanna pay -

I never would of expected

I never would of expected this from one of the developers. My respect for this website and it's "developers" has gone down a whole point.

Why?

First of all, why did you just bump a post from almost a year ago. Secondly, Ryan was just trying to be fun / humorous, and personally it didn't seem rude or anything of the sort to me, he tends to joke around like that (though commonly not in-forum). Thirdly, why would your respect for all developers (and the site) go down merely because you don't agree with the actions of one developer.

Yo, statement...

Posts in ALL CAPS are considered the textual equivalent of "shouting", and they are considered so for good reason: Like SHOUTING, they are usually annoying and often (as in this case) unnecessary.

Next, sometimes resurrecting something from nearly a year ago is understandable, such as if a person has a relevant question about what was said back then. Such is not the case here. Digging up something old merely to make some questionable observation about etiquette is rather spurious.

Thirdly, why would pointing out someone's faux pas (in a timely fashion, mind you) so they hopefully don't repeat it serve to diminish your rerspect for them?

Finally, if the poster himself wasn't visibly offended by the response they got, why are you offended?...
