This is Simeon's Project and Work
I am only posting this here as I had to upload it for him, and I didn't think adding a link to the new release in the old topic would be very efficient.
Description
Assault Cube is a free first-person shooter game based off of the game 'Cube'. The graphics are fantastic and the game is tons of good fun.
This latest Portable release comes with some minor fixes, as well as the ability to run Windowed or Full Screen. Please select and option and let me know if you automatically get that same option used next time, or if you run into problems.
Thank you, please test it out and enjoy.

Thank you again.

right now... but testing later 'cause I have a date in few minutes...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
I tried this new release on Windows Vista Home Premium and I have to say that it was more difficult to make it run than the first release... this version is more unstable, I can't say why... I even had to use ctrl+alt+del to kill it the first time I run it, the second time it worked ok...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
weird.
The only things I changed were the "run windowed" thing and some nsis-variables. None of them should affect the actual game.

me try again... and on XP
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
on my two PCs and in my friend's PCs, it works very good (except on my Vista PC).
Moreover, the installed folder is copied in my friends computer since they want to keep it, so... for your downloading stats, add another 25 computers... one of the guys took it and copied on their University's PCs, to play in LAN...
I'm sorry for this delay, I totally forgot to report... shame on me...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,

I am glad it works.
Maybe I'll have a vista machine for testing later this week.
And unfortunately, I dint have downloading stats, but maybe my hoster (thanks you Patrick) has...?
EDIT
Did you test DevTest 1 or 2?

this post was about the last version (2)... my comments about the first one are in the original post of that one...

I played this a few times with the last release. I got it installed and will be sure to give it a test when I finally get a chance (work doesn't look down too well on game playing...)
their is something wrong with the full screen version that makes the computer freeze. the window should be re-sizable.
I don't understand what you mean. If its full screen you cant resize it.
When exactly does your Computer freeze?

Maybe he means hitting maximize on the windowed version, I've seen that cause problems in games before.
Looks good, nothing left behind, nice work.

I just went in and checked my Download Statistics, check this out:
I'm gonna have to put you on SourceForge with these kinda downloads for an app that big. Only for this app, of course. E-mail me with your SourceForge username.
sent.

the all times most popular App on Patience's web? and is just a game... and in Beta...

I think its pretty stable.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
you should release it as a stable version...
I'm thinking in how difficult it was to find somebody able to portabilize this game and how popular it is now...
I'm still dreaming with UFO: Alien Invasion...

downloaded and am testing tomorrow on a few different systems
will feedback soon
when is this likely to go on full release?
This works fine, on three different PCs running windows home
only one reccuring problem:
there is no way to move the window when running in windowed mode
which therefore means you can't see your health and ammo counts (if you have them, i cant move the window to check)
overall good though
runs proficiantly on a 1.6ghz single core processor
and haven't found a way around it. I think the installed version has the same problem, too so...
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
I think it's do with the way the program reacts to mouse movements
also if you use windows + D keys and then try to move the window, you get it stuck at the bottom
i had to re-install it
portable version?
There is a ini file in the /Data/ folder. If you delete it it will ask you again if you want to run it windowed or full screen.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
it's sorted now
i'm having to run in full screen though
thanks
I didn't get your e-mail, maybe the wrong address. Remember just myfirstnamemylastname@mysite. Also, downloads on this a week have gone up 40, and Atomic Tanks is at 120.
I´ll resend it.
And as a precaution, I uploaded a text file with the email to my space on your server.
And its cool if people like my Apps
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
dunno if these are just a problem in the whole program, or in the portable only, but you cant load custom maps
:S
or any custom things
you've gotta replace things instead
I noticed that too but didn't have the time to investigate it. I hope that I find some time next week.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
It's actually in the standard version of 0.93 as well,
should be fixed in 0.94
in the meantime you can load maps by pressing the usual console key (tilde) and typing in:
Map [name of the map you want to load]
(as soon as you type in "map" it comes up with a tooltip explaining it all in greater detail)
and i'm also working on re-skinning the models, just in case anyone is interested
saves me the search time
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
But didn't think too much about it, since there is no much space on a PDrive to load it with maps and guns...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,

the maps are tiny
like 188 kbps
but yeah, i see where you're coming from
Noticed a few people complaining about its windowed capabilities. Any of you considered trying DxWnd? Haven't tried it myself because I preferred the full screen mode when I tried it. Maybe check into that.
what is that?
is it free?
I just googled it and there are several places you can download it from. Some seem kinda weird though. I read it is a program that forced other programs to run windowed but I didn't try it.

Finally a 3D shooter made portable!
Simplifying daily life through technology
so any news on if we can do this app or not? it is just a permission thing or a closed source library thing?
but I got a mail by one of the devs (the lead-Artist actually) and he said its ok. So I guess its ok. I also wrote a mail to John cause he asked and wanted to know more after having read tis thread but I never got a response.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
well i don't know the situation but if it's open source and on sourceforge and you got permission from them, then i don't see how there could be any problems with releasing this. this is good news because i would love this app to be released next
Hmm, why would we go out and ask permission for open source software to make a portable version!?!
anyway, I think this would be cool as official app, but there are MANY cool apps waiting for a release somehow. Maybe we should find a way to publish complete releases somewhere (not as alpha/beta quality) with an alternative splash screen and when PortableApps finally catches up John can just pick the apps and slap an PortableApps splash on them.
This way all the beta apps can be pulled out of limbo and the masses can start enjoying a bunch of 'new' apps.
Just tried this, windowed mode works pretty well, only problem is when alt-tabbing, the mouse is still controlling AC even though you can see the cursor outside of the window...
yeah, it seemed a little buggy when i tried it windowed too. simeon, mby you should just have it go fullscreen only.
I don't like that. I had when games take over my screen. Most of the time is screws up the display BIG TIME.
u mean u "hate" when games take over your screen? slow down a bit...u've been spellin stuff wrong a lot lately (now != not)
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
that the window-mode is buggy.
You cant really change the location of the window for example... but thats why it asks on first run. Maybe I will have it dosplay a warning in the "do you want it to be windowed?"-window and recommend & preselect the "no". Thoughts?

I just downloaded the app the other day and I ran into a weird problem. I used it fine on my home computer then, put when i tried it on a different one the only command that was mapped to the mouse that worked was shoot all the other ones I used had these errors come up
Unknown command : quickthrowgrenade
unknown command : zoom
unknown command : universalscro
Downloaded and will try.

Tried and worked well on XP SP3
Still can't help but suggest that sauerbraten or "Cube 2" would be a better choice to port. Please don't take this as anything other than constructive as I do very much appreciate the game.
Thanks again

I just found this one first but it has some unclear licensing things so maybe Ill take a look at the other two games...
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
well i thought the licensing issues were just that you needed permission which you got, so it should be fine right? also AssaultCube is the perfect match for PA since it looks good and is only 19MB! sauerbraten is a few hundered MB
redig myself into it and recheck. If I remember correctly it has some grafics that arent GPL but I am not sure so I'll have to recheck.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
well i don't think that stuff matters in this instance. the reason we have to mess with little licensing issues like that are because Sourceforge is for only open source, but Assault Cube is already hosted on Sourceforge, so everything in their package is okay for us to host on Sourceforge.
makes sense. I thought about that too and thought "what if they are wrong?" but we don't have to be more Catholic than the Pope, do we?
So if they get a problem with Sourceforge, we will have the same problem but we can deal with it THEN.
Next time I see John on IRC, Ill ask him about releasing this, ok?

Please add a release date for the latest dev test.
Simplifying daily life through technology
but I think it was somewhere around end of Jannuary.
But if everything goes according to plan, I'll recheck the package and we'll have a Prerelease next monday.
