Possibly a Bug

I have only recently started using PortableApps and I'm quite satisfied, so I'm not really sure if this problem is just with the PCs I plug into but, here it goes:

I am using the latest release of ThunderbirdPortable (as of February 1, 2008) and everything is working fine other than the GUI. The main selection pane (where the mails are listed in) and the reader pane is too large and goes beyond the window, even if maximized, making the scroll bar inaccessible. And when you are using (as I am) the lightning add-on features (i.e. Calendar) the display pane for the dates show only (approximately) 3/5 of the actual pane making some of the dates inaccessible (e.g. when its on week mode it shows only the days from Sunday until Thursday, Friday and Saturday is no longer visible.

I'll try to get some screenies up.

Uploaded the screenies

Sorry if I got a little overzealous about protecting my privacy.

Anyway, Notice how the texts and images is cut off at the extreme right of the screen. I didn't modify Thunderbird in anyway other than standard configurations for the mail client and the add-on for the calendar. Also, I did not, in any way, manipulate the images to suite my needs.

Here are the images:

Btw, those were taken in fullscreen with the taskbar minimized. Biggrin

To get rid of

that nasty red line at the bottom do this:
You should find a file called "offline.manifest" inside your \ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome folder.
Delete it and restart.

And are you using userChrome.css ?
Cause thats a file that could mess with your layout...
Maybe you find more help for your problem at http://kb.mozillazine.org, thats the official Thunderbird help forum.

not really what I asked but...

The red line was bothering me, but it is not the issue I am pointing out. My problem is the main display pane for the mail and calendar is disproportional to the window size, even if maximized. A suggestion would be an addition of a scroll bar at the bottom to provide flexibility of the pane, or make the pane automatically adjust to the window size, either way it will solve the problem.

But the red line/message at the bottom is bothering me, so ill try the fix you gave me after school...

I know

that the red line wasn't/isn't your main issue here but I noticed it and thought you might want to fix that too.

About the scroll bar:
I totally agree with you that the window sizes should match but we cant add a scroll bar because we only make the Program portable. The Development of Thunderbird is done by Mozilla, so my suggestion is that you ask there. My guess is that there is already a fix for your problem, because it seems to me that this isn't a problem that is specific to the portable version but to Thunderbird in general.

I hope that wasn't too harsh. Smile

I

have reading all of this because you are posting in my favorite PApp... Wink

I don't have a clue on what happened to you, I have run my PTh in tons of computers, different configurations, different OS, and even on different countries and never had happened something like this.

It happened once that it didn't show my extensions, but that was temporary in only one computer...

But, thinking in a solution, I have a couple of questions to you, did you tried reinstalling your Thunderbird Portable?, a silly one, are you running PTh on a normal Windows XP or in safe mode?, and the last one, what is your screen resolution?

As you probably know, sometimes, when you run Windows on Safe Mode or in a smaller screen resolution, some windows appears bigger and "out of the screen" just like it's happening to you now.

Resolved

After a clean reinstall everything went to how its supposed to be. A scroll bar also appeared and everything fits perfectly.

I guess it must have been a case of unclean/corrupted installation, fault on my part. I didn't need to use the userChrome.css tho. It works with other themes as well as with lightning. The annoying red-line disappeared too!

Thanks for all the help. Its nice to see a supportive community.:D
