Foobar

It's been asked about before ages ago and there is no (lightweight) mp3 player on the list... I think its the perfect mp3 player for a portable app.

Unfortunately foobar is not

Unfortunately foobar is not open source, currently this site can only support open source software, but there is progress being made to add support for freeware and commercial applications. I'm sure foobar will make the list once all the legal stuff is worked out for freeware apps.

What is lightweight?

What would you consider "lightweight", or perhaps, what problems do you see with the existing portablized players?

portable mp3-management, not only player wanted

Which one do you mean?
I agree, that there is a lack of a portable mp3-management. The problem is, that the most media-players get into trouble, when the mp3s are not at the same folder every time. A mp3-manager who can handle different sources (harddrives, usbs, etc) would be REALLY great! Songbird with usb-addon gets close to that, but not really, because thats not their goal.
Anybody know a better progg for portable use?

I've been experimenting with

I've been experimenting with 1by1, which is just for directories. Not OSS, and probably leaves some settings, but it is great if you just want to play what's in the folder.

As soon as John starts doing

As soon as John starts doing freeware, I'm with you, but separate hosting is needed (SourceForge won't host anything proprietary). foobar2000 is already portable AFAIK except the fpl playlists, but you can use m3u playlists with relative paths when you change drive letters.
