How Do I Update Firefox?

I have been using Firefox Portable for a year now and have been allowing the auto-update feature to update my version of Firefox Portable. In the FAQ Sticky it says that it is not OK to do that. So I ask, how would I migrate all of my settings and whatnot from the directory of my old Firefox Portable to the directory of the new Firefox Portable? Or is there an easier way?

Easy...

You don't have to migrate anything.
Just disable the auto-updater, download the versions from here and install them.

Its the same program, but a while ago, Mozilla changed something in the auto-update-process making it "non-portable". So if you use the installers from here, all your settings will be preserved and everything remains clean.

Last time I tried that. What

Last time I tried that. What happened was that the newer version of Firefox Portable was installed into a folder within the preexisting Firefox Portable folder. So I had one version of Firefox installed within the program directory of another version of Firefox.

ohh

that's strange.
How is your folder layout now?
the standard is
?:/PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/App
?:/PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/Data
?:/PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/Other
If it isn't the standard one, then things can become difficult.

well...

the new installers only work with the standard folder names. But it should work if you rename it to the standard and rename it back after the update.

Sounds good, thanks. I was

Sounds good, thanks. I was looking at a post about using the auto-update feature of Firefox with the Portable version and it said that auto-updating Firefox Portable is not recommended because it will mess it up. That only applies if you have the regular Firefox installed on the computer. I don't so auto-updating my Firefox Portable won't cause any harm at all.
