Any thoughts on why suddenly all the emails I have deleted from Jan '07 loaded back into my inbox when I launched TPE??
So I guess 'delete' actually means 'move to' then for massive retrieval (chosen or not) in the future?

You left out some clues. Like whether you are using IMAP (vs POP) and whether you had previously checked the setting to leave downloaded POP mail on the server.
You also didn't say whether this was the first time you used TBP with that account.
Those and a few other clues might help us figure it out with you.

AM ANSWERING BELOW IN ALL CAPS AS A DIFFERENTIATION, NOT TO BE SHOUTING:
You left out some clues. Like whether you are using IMAP (vs POP)----POP
and whether you had previously checked the setting to leave downloaded POP mail on the server.----DID NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS WHICH ARE SET NOT TO LEAVE DOWNLOADED MAIL ON THE SERVER...
You also didn't say whether this was the first time you used TBP with that account.----NO NOT FIRST TIME. BEEN USING TBP FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
Those and a few other clues might help us figure it out with you.----THANKS. I SURE HOPE SO. CONFUSING AND NOW WONDERING EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU 'THINK' YOU HAVE DELETED EMAILS??
check on your settings if you checked to delete mails on server once downloaded...
1400 mails in a row... wow!!!
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
That would not go over well on my internet.
They'd still be loading.
By any chance is this a gmail account?
