Pause, surfing, pause, surfing

I use firefox portable. It was running smooth for a month. One day it goes weird and annoys me. I was surfing and firefox pause for top 5 seconds then start surfing for 20 seconds. It came back pause again for top 5 seconds. It keep redoing and I look for answer to solve this problem. My firefox is 2.0.0.12. My add-on is Ad-block Plus, DOM inspector, Google Notebook, and Switch Proxy Tool. My usb drive is PNY 1GB. It's same happened at my home and my job too. IE has nothing like this but I prefer firefox over IE. Thanks!

P.S. Add-on has nothing to do because it happened before i installed few add-on which I posted.

Extensions and Settings

It could be a few things. First off, double-check your settings and ensure you haven't accidentally enabled your cache (it should be set at zero). That's a common one.

Next, ensure that your drive doesn't have any issues. Run an error check on it (right-click in explorer, properties, tools, check for errors). Ensure it's error free.

Finally, try disabling all your extensions and then surf around. Enable them one at a time until you can determine which (if any) are contributing to the pausing.

That's about everything you can check. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks for welcome. I love

Thanks for welcome. I love this site! I checked on drive error and it came back okay. I found out it was 200mb cache so I set it back to zero and clear cache. I removed whole add-on. I closed the firefox and an hour later I open firefox and it has still same problem. Sad Any ideas? Should I remove firefox off the flash drive and reinstall again? Thanks for your time.

I decided to remove firefox

I decided to remove firefox and reinstalled. It stopped. I wonder what exactly caused it so I won't have it happen again...dang! I'd be careful to watch and catch if it happens. I would go back and see what I ve did...Will let you know. Thanks for your help.

Same problem in FF 2 AND FF 3 Beta

Hi,

I have actually exactly the same problem as you. I use FFPB 2.0.12 and I've tried to delete the folder and re"installed" it several times but the same thing happens over and over again. Now I've tried with the FFPB 3 Beta 4 and exactly the same problems happens again! I've watched the task managar but neither the memory nor the cpu usage goes up when this freeze occurs. It's only Firefox that freezes and my cache is set to zero.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Slow Drive

If you've tried everything else and it happens on even a clean install, your drive is just slow on writes and switching between reads and writes.

You may be able to eek out some performance by disabling some features, though:
