association with rar/zip files

Is there anyway to make portableapps open rar/zip files?
in my pen drive is better to keep the files compressed instead .exe. because that way, i can safe some space.Files .exe are bigger than .zip/.rar.So would better i add files .rar/.zip in the main menu but as far i know i can't do that due the file association with .exe or .paf.exe.
any idea?

and sorry for my bad english.

thanks all

7-zip Portable

7-zip Portable will handle those sorts of files quite nicely.

It opens as an "Explorer", so you can find the archive files you are looking for. You can then extract their contents, or add files to an archive. (It doesn't create RAR archives, but can extract from them.)

By itself it doesn't change the associations. You don't really need to use the associations, only remember not to rely on them. CafeMOD Portable is being designed to change associations temporarily, so you might look at that; or you can put a shortcut in the SendTo folder and select it with the right-click menu.

Lots of options to try, one ought to do the trick for you.

Is it only .exe-files ?

In that case you can compress them with UPX http://upx.sourceforge.net/
UPX uses the LZMA compression-algorithm, just like 7zip . The advantage of UPX
over 7zip is that you can execute the UPX'ed file directly.
It also works on .dll's, at least if they are not shared between multiple apps..

There's something called

There's something called nbinder that turns a bunch of related files into a single compressed executable. (It's not free any more, however.)

7-zip can also create self-extracting archives. It might be possible to have it auto-start a program after extracting, and to remove things when it closes. That might be something interesting to try. At a basic level it's what nbinder does.
