I just got a message from Thunderbird that a new version had been downloaded and that I should restart Thunderbird to install it, which I did. Now Thunderbird does not work anymore. I can double-click the Icon and I get the Portable Apps splash screen. Then nothing. I have already restarted my computer, but it does not help. How do I get Thunderbird back to work without losing all my emails and having to go through all the configuration settings again?
You should disable the thunderbird update search, only the add-ons.
To upgrade your Thunderbird, you come to this site and unzip the upgrade.
Now that you installed a regular Thunderbird on a portable Thunderbird, I am afraid you have to get rid of the file and re-install Thunderbird Portable...
I sell ice in the winter
I sell fire in hell
I am a hustler baby, I sold water to a well...
Hmm, it had done that several times before, and I never had a problem...
Anyway, If I re-install Tbird (the portable), will I lose all my settings and emails, or is there a way to install it so that everything is preserved?
As with all the apps here, Thunderbird Portable supports in-place upgrades. You can install a new copy right over an old one to do an upgrade of fix an install of it that has problems.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Ok, just tried this: download the application from our website, install it. It does not ask me if this is an update and installs itself in a folder "Thunderbirdportable". When I start the application after installing it, I get an error message:
"the installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete"
That message means that the launcher (ThunderbirdPortable.exe) is corrupt. There is most likely a problem with your drive. check it for errors and back it up as soon as possible. Try installing TB Portable locally and make sure it works. Then copy it to your drive. If it fails with the same issue, it is most likely a hardware issue (drive or USB port).
