When did firefox go up in size? Last I knew it was about 6 megs. And yes, OperaUSB is smaller (I think), but it's a matter of preferance, really.

Portable Firefox is 8MB larger than it needs to be to keep compatibility with the Firefox auto-update system. Firefox's built-in updater applies binary patches to files, so you can download a quick 150K patch that gets automatically applied while you work VS a 6MB full download restart on the browser. The 8MB seemed like a god tradeoff for the functionality.

So did I. The 8MB is how much larger it is when unzipped. It's about the same size download.
