I installed the GIMP 2.4.4 multilingual. After installation i wanna set to Hungarian locale. So I changed the GIMPPortableSettings.ini file in GIMPPortable\Data\settings directory: I have set LANG=hu_HU, but after restarting, the language is always the local PC's LANG. The en_US code works OK, but the de_DE, fr_FR works not. How to change the language?
You're right. There was a bug in the launcher. I've posted a fix as 2.4.4 Revision 2. There's a small update utility (160k) that will update your 2.4.4 install (look below the download button on the GIMP Portable page).
Oh, and be sure and set it according to the way GIMP treats it. In your case, it should be
LANG=hu
, not hu_HU.Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Speaking of GIMP languages, the Help file installer has a bug where all the images for all the languages are installed even though the user may have selected only "English" in the installer.

Hi
First of all, thanks for the great job bringing GIMP to the USB Stick.
I found that forum entry and while i was trying to set the language of my GIMP to german, and GIMP Portable doesn't care about the LANG=de setting in the D:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\Data\settings\GIMPPortableSettings.ini File. Has anyone an idea why that happens?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Kind regards
Tom
I just tried it and it works as expected. Are you sure you installed GIMP Portable with the additional languages? (Browse to GIMPPortable\App\gimp\share\locale and be sure there's a de folder in there) Also be sure to run it once before editing the GIMPPortableSettings.ini file. And be sure you're launching it directly to double check that it isn't something else.

Hey John
I tried what you said and i'm confused now. I tried it at home on my winxp maschine and the language was german (de). I didn't change anything and back to my work workstaition (windows vista) the language is english again.
I started the GIMP directly by doubleclicking the GIMPPortable.exe.
Any idea why that could happen?
I just changed the LANG= setting on both WinXP and Windows7 and GIMP used the German language for the interface on both OSes.

I tried out the Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) - btw, a nice portable app - and found out that there are two variable for language Settings on the vista machine my GIMP uses:
LANG de
Language GER
might that cause the problem?
OK...sometimes there is an easy solution for a problem even if one talks to himself...:-)
I tried it out to set both variables LANG and Language to de before starting the GIMP...and it worked! GIMP started in german. The bad news i don't have adminstraions permissions on my maschine to set the language environment variable correct. So i copied the de Language folder in: D:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\App\gimp\share\locale and renamed it to ger and no it works!
thanks for your help!
