Using Firefox Portable to open AIM uri's with Pidgin Portable

While browsing with Firefox Portable, I would like to open AIM uri's (aim:goim?screenname=JohnDoe)using Pidgin Portable. Is it possible and how? Or is it something that would require registry edits on the machine?

Also, if this has been addressed elsewhere, please let me know what search terms you used to find the answer, as I've been racking my brain to figure it out.

I doubt it

The normal way with helper Apps doesn't work because it isn't a file type for Firefox. So I guess its the same as with the "mailto" links: Firefox uses the systems standard. I haven't verified this so I don't know for sure. What happens if you click on a aim-URI while Pidgin is running? Thats the way you get it to work with Thunderbird and the mailto links - maybe that works here too.

Nope.. a URI isn't a file.

Nope.. a URI isn't a file. CAFE Mod only watches actions on files and directories.

With Pidgin Portable running, the response is "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (aim) isn't associated with any program." Doesn't matter if Pidgin is running or not.
