for whatever reason gmail's favico won't go into a bookmark. I've never had this problem with non-portableapps version of firefox. favicon's do work with other sites I'm not sure what's going on.

even with the non-portable version. try deleting the old bookmark, closing Firefox and open it again and re-bookmark. The favicon is stored in the bookmark.html but somtimes it gets messed up. so maybe redoing it will help.

If the above doesn't work, you can also try the FF extension Favicon Picker 2.
That extension allows you to change any favicon on your bookmarks.
