... next version
You are here
PortableApps.com Updater 1.0 ALPHA 2 (outdated)
It keeps suggesting PokerTH, Eraser and PDFTK but I have the latest versions.
I think thats because the ini is wrong as PDFTKs version number is 3.2.0.0, Erasers is 5.82.0.2 and PokerTHs is 0.6.1.1.
The Updater says Eraser 5.86.1.1, POkerTH 0.6.1.2 and PDFTK 0.6.1.0. Peazip isnt updated either. But I guess all those errors will vanish into thin air when Ryans version gets released
We will see...
Next Alpha next week.

I found my Delphi code to do it at https://portableapps.com/node/9388
We need to make a decision on whether we should use NSIS, Delphi or C++ to do this. IMHO, NSIS isn't powerful enough to do it (it's possible, but it's like turning a plane into a bicycle).
I like NSIS, and marko has seem to done a good job with it.

I love NSIS, it does great things, and has great possibilities considering it's in installer system. It's hard, but I think it's worth it.
and I found a batch file is more powerful than basic
I think you should request this app to be added to the development test releases section. https://portableapps.com/development/test
Add a comment to request it's addition.
Marko has write access, so he can add it himself
This version will fix the following issues:
* License- Welcomepage (show only once)
* updater.ini format closer to app.ini
* better function for component page preparation
* new icons (thanks to ptmb)
* support for proxy authentification
* self update support for the updater
Stay tuned
Give me some time to make the last changes /tests ...

I just used it to compress a app that I'm working on together with the application dev itself. Initial testing revealed the application still being functional.
Cheers for John!
[Edit] whoops, was meant for the compression tool. How stopid of me, sorry
First off, I think this is a great way to get my portable apps updated. Great concept! My current method of merely keeping an RSS feed on the latest "news" from PortableApps is a bit more time consuming.
However, I noticed that the installation paf's that were being downloaded were older versions than the current ones. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance
thats because Marko didnt update the ini on the server where the Updater checks for new versions.
Is that something that the community could help with?
... because at the moment I work on BETA1, thats why the updater.ini is not actual.
With the new version the ini will change (closer to app.ini...).
At the moment I set Simeon as author
If I get the last issue fixed (show some information while the ini is loaded) the new version will available tomorrow.
... but I'll update the current ini soon.
Marko
Thanks but where is the ini?
You'll find it here: https://portableapps.com/updater.ini
