This question is mostly at John, but to anyone who wishes to voice an opinion.
How important linux compatability? I have tested FakeNES Portable under wine 0.9.57- Mepis linux in case anyone cared- and it ran.
However, PNotes Portable couldn't. I suspect this is because of the command line switches confusing wine. This leads me to my question- how important is linux compatability? Is this something, I, as a developer should worry about (I have recieved permission to use his launcher and would be honored to be the developer of the portable version) or is it okay not to worry about.
Basically, if the app itself works in Wine, then the launcher shouldn't get in the way. If the app doesn't, you don't need to worry about it. All the launcher code is designed to work in Wine regardless, though.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
of a linux reg? My dad won't let me install linux

And if he ran Linux, he probably didn't let you install Wine
Linux is interesting, yet not everyone has the space to spare or cares about partitions.
It would be cool to have software that ran regardless of the operating system though.
Linux doesn't install Wine on purpose...
And I don't think Java is the ultimate solution either
That, and the hard drive has 30GB, and 1GB free

Man, and then to think a new hard disk with at least triple the amount can be bought for around 50$. Maybe give him a new hdd on his birthday with the note that you should be allowed to fiddle with it. It's educational, ya know
Is it a recent PC? If yes you can boot up from a pendrive and don't bother the PC. Your dad won't know. Old PC? Then use a boot up disc or floppy togheter with the pendrive.
Here I manage all the PCs and I have the final word, sort of... (Linux!!!)
Blue is everything.
Here. Here.
I wasn't willing to risk messing up my hardrives- so I pulled them and installed mepis on my portable hardrive. Its probably a little slow, as its a 3200rpm hard drive- but runs well and I haven't really cared much about any "lag".
I don't know if linux has a registry- but wine simulates the windows enviroment and the windows registry (boo, but oh well) for you in the linux.
I'll give more infor into how I pulled it off if anyone is interested.

I run windows at work and linux at home. It would be amazing if you could put a Wine Portable app on my usb drive and run the portable apps through wine when connected to my linux box.
I would definitely use a portable wine or at least portable apps that run on wine.
Wine Portable is above my current skill level. Sorry.
Most of the apps run in wine, I think. I know that if the app runs in wine on its own, the portable version should run in wine.
