Just a random idea

So I just got done installing portable apps along with some programs. One of which was open office. i noticed that there was an icon for every instance of office (Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math and Writer), and it occurred to me that it'd be cool to have customizable folders so you can organize your programs into categories. Then you click on the folder and it expands to reveal the apps stored inside.

I looked around a little, and there didn't seem to be a way to do this. So if there is already a way to do this can someone let me know? and if there isn't, that might make a cool addition to some future release.

Also, is there a way to change the name of individual apps on the menu. I wanna take the word "portable" off all of them to make it look a little cleaner.

Much appreciated!

Before the usual crowd shows

Before the usual crowd shows up singing "search the forums" in four-part harmony, I'll mention that all of those things are planned for future versions of the menu, and some even exist in some of the alternative menu programs listed in the forums.

The menu entries are taken from the name stored as a "resource" in the portable app's file. You can use a resource editing tool (search for resource hack) to whatever you like. The source code is also available, and once you install NSIS and a few plugins, you can compile your own version with different name or icon or whatever you like.

Well thanks! I have resource hacker actually, so I'll try messing around with that. Thanks again

Won't Work

You can't hack the launchers, if you do, they won't work. You'll have to recompile. Just download NSIS Portable the beta testing forums from this site, compile with that and there should be no errors.

You'll want to edit the PORTABLEAPPNAME in Other\Source\AppNamePortable.nsi.

This and more is in the pipeline

There's a lot of activity around improving the menu, including a bunch of mods. You can search and find them.
