Why would we use anything other than portable apps?

Since it's supposed to be a good thing to not have programs which muck around with the registtry. Why wouldn't we just use all the portable apps on our primary computers also?

I do

This has been brought up on the forums before but I can't find the thread. Nothing stops you from running portable apps on your primary computer.

Suite vs. individual

They work well on the main drive. If you put the individual apps in one directory and create a PStart menu for them, put a shortcut to PStart in your startup folder and it will stay in your tray. The only downside is you will not be able to drag and drop to a shortcut to launch an app. For now, individual apps are easier to update than the suite.

I do 2

I use synctoy from MS to sync my home network and a USB drive for the rest. Works so well:)

I guess in the future we will all have portables as offline/no-net/ live back ups and web services for the rest?

Its almost like they

are trying to keep SyncToy a secret. It actually does work. It even has a few choices...do you think MSoft is actually listening to folks and are afraid to admit it Wink
