HOWTO: uTorrent - Portable App and Settings

How can I use µTorrent on a USB key or other removable drive?
Simply copy settings.dat (located in %AppData%\uTorrent ) to the same folder as uTorrent.exe, and you're done.

http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#How_can_I_use_.C2.B5Torrent_on_a_USB_key...

I started with that info and worked off it from there. The specific files you need to copy are located in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\uTorrent" These are the specific filenames: dht.dat, resume.dat, settings.dat. There may or maynot be .old versions of those files as well.

You can save the uTorrent.exe file from http://www.utorrent.com/download.php on your USB, then copy those files to the same directory.

To have the files you download save on your USB stick/harddrive, you need to open uTorrent > Options > Preferences > Folders. For the folders to put files in use the form of "./directory/subdirectory", I used "./download/incoming". The torrents and incomplete files store in the incoming directory then move to download when they are completed.

Do this mean that Utorrent is capable of relative paths (i.e. does the Utorrent interpret the . above to be the path to the folder the utorrent.exe currently is in). If so, then can someone explain more how to accomplish that since I get an error when I try.

But maybe the . in the quote was shorthand for whatever absolute path a user has to the utorrent.exe folder. In that case it's not full portability since the USB-drive might get different driverletters on different computers, right?
