Actual Portable Apps Branded Memory Stick

I like the standard memory stick shown on most of the portable apps splash screens (the one on Portable FireFox, to save ambiguity), and was wondering if there are or may be any branded memory sticks similar to those on the splash screens? Could be a cool way to make some extra $$$ for the development Smile

Thats not a bad idea

If the read/write speeds were impressive enough, I'd buy one.

John needs to start making some money off of this. And not "Google Ads" money either

So....

Is there a PortableApps flashdrive on the market similar to the U3 one? It would be a perfect way to raise money, and pull ahead of U3 in the Portable Applications race.

Ahead

Actually, we've always been ahead of U3 in terms of actual users as well as application downloads. Nearly all users either uninstall U3 or ignore it.

That's great, especially

That's great, especially because U3 sticks are sold in shops.

But I think he ment to use U3 hardware and prep it so it runs portable apps. (Maybe supporting it through the installer to have it work on a U3 stick.)

I have a fingerprint drive that also uses a CD part to launch the software. That's basically the coolest thing of U3 and similar technologies.

While I know you say "nope" I would love to see the original PortableApps take advantage of available hardware. I know U3 will be abandoned but the 'new' format will surely locked off for things like open source menus. (It's M$ after all..)

Some ideas besides the software:

Stickers for on your USB drives, Carrier cases with PA logo, USB socket/sleeves with logo, selling USB sticks with printed logo, carrier cases for USB sticks, etc. etc.

the cheapest solution for now could be selling small stickers with the PA logo on it to stick on your own USB sticks (If size and material permits). And a sheed could contain 5 or 10 stickers so users could stick it on all their drives.

A real portable apps logo printed on a stick would be cool Smile

There are many companies who sell sticks where you can put your own logo on. Okay, you rather have an existing company sell sticks but who knows, just throwing some ideas around...

But I still like U3 because of it's CD-Image...

Ad being ahead of U3... hmm, dont forget many many many U3 sticks have been sold (and still being sold). There's not a real way to verify the claim of always being ahead. Not all U3 users come here.

Google: 15,400,000 for U3
Google: 783,000 for portable apps

Sure There Is

Don't forget, Firefox for U3 was their most popular app until I dropped support for U3. The downloads of it were always a SMALL fraction of Firefox Portable. This despite tens of millions of drives at the time. People just don't use or like U3.

True Also true that FireFox

True

Also true that FireFox for U3 didn't had more downloads than U3. Can I assume there wasn't an U3 FireFox pre-installed on U3?

Offtopic, I found references to OpenOffice.org in translation files for my fingerprint drive..

Whoa!

YOU used to work for U3? WOW! Also, you might be right about that U3 thing, The last time I got a flashdrive with U3, I uninstalled it and added PortableApps. Even before I even knew of PortableApps, when I got my first flashdrive, I used U3, and when I realized the antivirus that came prebundled expires, I uninstalled it. Also, I had always heard U3 was ahead.

He did not

He did not say he worked for U3, and he DID NOT work for them.... he worked WITH them. He is the one who made the Firefox Portable for U3.

if not the hardware ...

then how about a skin? I'd go for a skin to put on my usb key or laptop. It can be small like stickers even.

while i can't imaging

while i can't imaging PortableApps flash drives in the stores any time soon, i can see them being sold from this site. i bet if there were some drives made similar to the splash screen image, and preloaded with a PA suite, that plenty would sell from this website at least. Even Mozilla has a store section on their site. Of course on the other hand i'm sure it could be expensive to get a new style of flash drive made when it's not on a large scale.

There is a ton of money to be made.

Items personalized with PortableApps are easy to make. The number of people looking here for buying advice is impressive. PortableApps merchandise would sell well. You can pass out stickers and lanyards at hacker conventions. You can offer sticks, hats and tee shirts as prizes. Get somebody on this.
