FireFox always looses all of it´s settings :-(((

I´m sure this has been asked before, but I am in patgonia ans the internet here is costly and slow for effective searching.

Every time I boot portable FF 1.5, it seems to pick up it´s setting from the installations on the local pc. It resets my homepage, begins auto updating, trashes my bookmarks and all my set options are lost. Also all my forms and history are lost. The last time I used it it updated itself and destroyed my book marks file.

Is there any way to avoid this?

PS--I dont want to run FF 2 because I can´t stand the new tabs implementaion. Is there any way to get ff 1.5 style tabs with ff 2?

Thanks

'Tab Implementation?'

What do you mean, 'Tab Implementation'? There's a theme that gives the tabs the old simple look, instead of the new glossy kind of look, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

I don´t like how the new

I don´t like how the new tabs maintain an approximately 100 px width and then go sliding off the screen edge. Then you have to scroll the tab bar from side to side to access all the tabs that are off the side, loosing the location of other tabs. I keep track of tabs by approximate location not title or icon.

Ideal would be something allows you to specify a tab width in pixels and would possibly rotate thru a serries of 10 or so colors for easy identification. When it runs out of space it could add a second tab bar.

Any extention like that?

Tab Extensions

Try this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/158) for changing the width of your tabs. It also gives you several other options for tabs. As for getting colored tabs, this extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1368) will allow you to make your tabs different colors.

about:config

Just type about:config into the address bar, and change the setting "browser.tabs.tabMinWidth" to 0. No need to install an extension. Also change tabClipWidth to 0 if you don't want the close button to disappear as the tabs get smaller.

Firefox is highly customizable right out of the box if you know what you're doing.

You can try Tab Mix Plus, also: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122
It's a must have for enhancing tabbed browsing.

well...

If all your settings are lost anyhow, I´d suggest deleting the whole FirefoxPortable folder, installing the latest version, applying the tricks mentioned earlier to make the tabs look and work the way you want them to and you should be good. My guess is that some settings in your old portable install somehow mess things up so it does weird things. That shouldn't happen if you restart with a clean install.

Hope that helps.
