Spanish Help Needed - Toucan

As you may know I have had three sets of translations for Spanish in Toucan, not being a Spanish speaker myself I have no way of knowing which set is best, but it was suggested that I put them all up and let you, the users, choose, so here they are.

You will need a copy of poEdit installed. You can get all three of the po files here they are in the file called Spanish.zip

Any feedback as to which set is best, or a combination, would be most appreciated.

I checked

both three translations (using Universal Viewer portable... Wink ) and in my opinion, the most accurate, technically speaking, is the Nicolas' translation.

The Eladio's translation is very literal, for example, he translates "about" as "sobre" (which is also understood as "on" or "over" in English) but technically it's "acerca de" which is how Nicolas and Javier did it.

Javier's is better than Eladio's but he used words in a non natural Spanish way, more like English, like "BackUp Copy" in "Copia Seguridad" instead of "Copia de Seguridad".

Nicolas' is the best option, in both examples he used "acerca de" and "Resguardo" which is more accurate than "copia de seguridad" (well, I prefer "respaldo" but the one he choose is good enough).

The problem here is that Spanish have a lot more (but really a lot more) synonyms than English for the same word, but those that Nicolas used are more accurate in computers talk.

Then Nicolas is my preferred option.

Hi,

I wrote Copia Seguridad for space problems, and change some words to any other non literal translation for the same reason.

I think Respaldo is not very accurate in Spain, maybe in South America.

Thanks for your comments Smile

to all

Well, after being a bit busy and lazy, here I am again (or for the first time) Smile

Aciago, you are right with "Resguardo" and I have it in the tip of my thounge but it didn't came out :P, that is the right (or most acurate) word in this case.
Any sugestions would be accepted, and we can make a "Multi-spanish" tranlation or two separete packs.

In Latin America (cause I'm including Mexico and the Caribbean) we use "Copia de Resguardo" and in English is Backup Copy. For lazyness every body tends to speak faster just saying Backup or "Resguardo".

Instead of saying "make a backup" we say "Has una copia"( in Argentina "Che, hacé una copia" Biggrin ), wich means "make a copy" in english. But it won't be OK if we just use "Copia".

"Copia de Seguridad" it's good for me but it's to long (it's obvius enough for a newbie) and in that case the window of the app should be resized.

Come on, lets work toghether!!! I'm anxious to see the release.

After a week

without checking the forum (I was traveling... and of course, anxious for check PApps.com) I think that finally it doesn't matter which translation is used, there will always be corrections, fixes and complaints... Wink

And, I prefer to use just one lang pack for Spanish... at the end, there is no so much difference and the important thing here is a useful App that every one of us will enjoin to use, and every newbie will enjoy to understand... am I wrong? Smile

Corrections

Well, I'm mexican, and we never say "resguardo", we do use "respaldo", but "resguardo" is never used when talking about computers, and I know that some people could not understand it. so the most accurate word is actually "Respaldo", at least for Mexico and probably many other Latin American countries.

I also recommend doing a Latin American translation, and a translation for Spain, as there are quite a bit differences.
