I didn't found any note on the mozilla-website yet, but the servers seem to be updated already:

But I'm a bit suspicious: published date is April 1th...

I was under the impression that betas weren't announced. There's certainly no mention of FF3 anywhere on the main Firefox page...
They don't announce it on the main page of Mozilla.com because betas aren't for regular users. It gets announced in several other locations including the all beta page.

Well, my computer at work was automatically updated to FF 3 Beta 5 yesterday morning. So I guess it was official since then...
