How can I disable the splash screen in Notepad++ Portable?
I tried it with DisableSplashScreen=true in
Notepad++Portable\Data\settings\Notepad++PortableSettings.ini
and in
Notepad++Portable\App\AppInfo\appinfo.ini
but it doesn't work.

You need to use the Notepad++Portable.ini file located in \Other\source.
First, move that file to the Notepad++Portable directory, then set the DisableSplashScreen=true
Thank you very much. It works.
The above is not very clear. Here's how:
from this sub-directory:
C: \ Notepad++Portable \ Other \ Source \ AppNamePortable.ini
Copy . . . AppNamePortable.ini . . . to this folder:
C: \ Notepad++Portable \ AppNamePortable.ini
. . . within the folder . . . C: \ Notepad++Portable \
rename . . . AppNamePortable.ini . . . to . . . Notepad++Portable.ini
open . . . Notepad++Portable.ini
and change this from "false" to "true" . . . DisableSplashScreen=true
This topic is more than 7 years old. Things changed (a lot) since then. The way to handle AppNamePortable.ini is described in the readme.txt Other\Source.
In Notepad++portable/Other/Source/Readme.txt
, it says under the header "User Configuration",
There is an example INI included with this package to get you started. To use it,
copy AppNamePortable.ini from this directory to Notepad++Portable.ini next to
Notepad++Portable.exe.
This confused the crap out of me because you can't copy a file from one directory INTO a file; you can only copy a file from one directory INTO another directory, and there is no directory titled "Notepad++Portable.ini". Additionally, it said the directory is next to Notepad++Portable.exe, but this file is not in any such directory but is actually in Notepad++Portable/
, which by the way also doesn't have any directory titled "Notepad++Portable.ini".
clear reading difficulties
What's your beef with me, man? Why do you have to be such a rude commenter?
As a general rule, INI files are in the same directory as the EXE they are used by. Nearly all portable software works like that.
A far easier way is to just use the PortableApps.com Platform. There's a single checkbox in the Options window to disable all splash screens.
Well clearly not PAP because many of the apps I've installed through PAP have not had their INI files in the same directory but rather a subdirectory within that directory.
Also, it says, "if possible". Which is why you have to modify NP++'s INI file as described here.
the above comment by sludge7051-x still works. Or at least it worked perfectly for me...
be careful, the problem with the sludge solution (c'mon that has to get some writer's juice flowing is that it is unreliable in RL
This is real life. And it clearly is reliable since it still works, both on my home computer and the public computer I'm using right now to type this message.
Seriously, stop being a troll.
the above comment by sludge7051-x still works.
... and that's exactly, what is described in the Readme.txt. sludge's comment was not useless, but this topic has been discussed many times before. If you don't understand the explanations in the Readme.txt PLEASE stop meddling with ini-files. No offence meant, but if you really get confused by such a grammatical simplification (yes, it should have been two steps instead of one), you're definitely not up to such things...
Or I understand INI files but have mental illness that makes it so my brain is very particular when it comes to comprehending instructions.
Seriously, understanding or not understanding one person's instructions isn't necessarily indicative of any lack of skill.
OK, smartypants, you're right, sorry. Maybe we should stop littering this old thread with futile polemics then...

I just know my limits, and I know when someone is committing a logical fallacy.
Whatever, though. I would agree this littering needs to end. Peace. •◡• ✌
