Hi there,
I just discovered this awesome project that is PortableApps, and I immediately installed it on my HDD. All apps works (Rock'n Roll!), but just one thing to fix is reminding: my autorun.
Effectively, it doesn't launches the menu. The icon and the name of the device are successfully changed, but it doesn't launches what we want.
Does anybody had this problem already and know how to fix it?

Autorun is for removable media, foremost for CD and DVD rom.
I made a quicklaunch shortcut for the menu. I'm sure one could also add it to the startmenu's Startup folder.
I hadn't exposed clearly my problem.
My disk is an External HDD.

Since you have the icon and drive name the aurorun.inf is read, maybe your OS blocks autostart for apps.To make it more clear: you plug in your HDD, nothing happens but when you go to explorer your hdd has icon and name.Format is ntfs? Maybe it´s not recognized as removeable drive? so it´s the same with me. Does anything happen when your hdd is formatted in fat 32?

Note that the autorun feature has been used so much to launch trojans and other malware that Microsoft makes it hard to implement it. That is, the default state on recent operating systems is to be safe and not auto-start whatever is on a drive you insert into your machine. You may have to bite the bullet and right click on the drive icon and choose the Start Portable Apps option.

I found the best solution to be Autorun, an AutoIT script by Steven Towner you can find here.
It looks like it might actually increase security a tad over a generic autoplay/autorun functionality, in that you define what is to run for each device. With a bit of luck a device (e.g. a picture frame or flash drive) you insert that has a trojan on it will just start Explorer instead of executing the Trojan, while your regular USB drive will automatically start PAM or whatever.

Well, the problem with Autoplay functioning the way you want it on most machines has to do with the specifics of the settings on the USB drive. That's not something that will be fixed by any app you put on your thumb drive.
Pretty much, most antivirus/spyware programs I've used have a little more security features on removable drives. I still think that area needs more work, though; I've seen plenty of antivirus apps that treat it like another hard drive, which is just wrong.
