uses 100% cpu with multiple tabs of jpgs opened

whenever i open up multiple tabs that have just jpgs on them my cpu usage goes to 100% and it takes a second or 2 to switch from each tab. this has only happened fairly recently and it doesn't happen when i view the tabs with ietab. anyone have any ideas? thanks
