Hi,
this is my first post on this forum :). First I have to say the Portable Apps are amazing!
Last I searched for simple pdf2image converter. I found mainly commercial application, but I read that GIMP can open PDF files and save as bitmap. As fan of Portable Apps I downloaded GIMP_Portable_2.4.5_Rev_2.paf.exe and I installed on my hard disk with other Portable Apps. When I tried to open PDF file, a Windows pop-up asked whether I want to send information about problem of poppler.exe.
I downloaded and installed normal GIMP for Windows (gimp-2.4.5-i686-setup.exe) and I can open PDF files without any problems.
Any help?
Regards,
Jacek
My guess is that it wasn't included when JTH did the portable release. I wouldn't know for sure though.

I just installed version 2.4.5 on a PC running Windows XP x64. I experienced a simalar problem when trying to open a PDF file. First a Windows error message appears, then a GIMP error message. See details below. I then tried the new version on a PC running Windows XP Pro (32bit) and the same error message occured.
Windows Error Message Details:
AppName: poppler.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: libpoppler-glib-2.dll

GIMP Error Message
Plug-in crashed: "poppler.exe"
(C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMPPortable2.4.5\App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\poppler.exe)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.
Opening 'C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx.pdf' failed:
Portable Document Format plug-In could not open image
Previously I used Version 2.2.15. This version required Ghostscript to be copied to the app/gimp/bin folder to open PDF's. I tried this in version 2.4.5 but it had no effect.
I had the same problem with the portableApps version and not with the normal desktop installation of gimp (both 2.4.5). The solution was to copy the files "libpoppler-2.dll" and "libpoppler-glib-2.dll" from the desktop installation to the portableApps bin directory.
It seems to me that the included poppler libs do not work.
I copied from my Gimp 2.4.5 to GimpPortable and it worked as advertised...
Now if I can find a workaround for using as a portable when the drives change (you lose pointers to the "scripts", "plugins" and any "plugin associated shortcut" is lost)
Thank you for the suggestion. That worked perfectly ... but only because I had remote access to files from a copy at home, because I can't install non-portable GIMP at the office.
I'm using a newly installed Windows 2000 and then installed the gimp 2.4.7 binary which poppler...dlls are newer than those of my gimp-portableappsversion (2.4.5). Great hint.
John just released GIMP 2.6.8

It doesn't have this issue at all.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
First of all, sorry for my english
I have "installed" the version 2.80 and the problem are the same. Maybe the prob is the portable version not have the correct libraries for x64
Sorry again for my english.
SORRY SORRY SORRY
My error is: put the new gimp version in the same directory where I have a previous version where exist "pdf-file", this plugin not work. Erased all pervious plugins not in that version
sorry again for my error and my english
I have x64 , and portable gimp 2.80 works without error.
Do you have portable ghostscript?
Because gimp uses some of ghostscript's libaries.
Just thinking this could be part of the problem.
Edit: You may need jPortable also.
