media player extension

Im having problems loading the media player extension for firefox onto the porable app. Everytime i try to load it it just seems to pull up the full version that i have on the computer. When i try "Get extensions" in the add-ons menu, there doesnt seem to be a windows media player extension on the website. Im also having the same problems loading extensions to most of my other programs too. Is there some universal fix?

"the media player"
You are taking about the "Windows Media Player" correct?

I think you mean the Windows Media Player "Plug-In", not Add-On/extension.

"there doesnt seem to be a windows media player extension on the website"
That is correct, it is NOT an Add-On/extension.

If you do mean the "Windows Media Player Plug-In", where did you get it?

"Everytime i try to load it it just seems to pull up the full version that i have on the computer"
Yes, that is what the Plug-In does. It makes the local version of WMP work with FF, it is not stand alone functional, many Plug-Ins are not.

The WMP FF Plug-In, np-mswmp.dll, should be placed in the FFP dirctory:
x:\PATH\FirefoxPortable\Data\Plugins
This will allow FFP to use the WMP on the local machine.

One which does "replace" the local install
[i.e. uses your version and not the local copy]
is the Adobe/MM Flash Player Plug-in.
It however is difficult to "install".
You must manually place the files NPSWF32.dll and [maybe] flashplayer.xpt
into:
x:\PATH\FirefoxPortable\Data\Plugins

"having the same problems loading extensions to most of my other programs too"
Again, if you mean Plug-Ins, not Add-Ons/extensions this common.
Many "link" to the local install so it can be used by FF, they do not replace it.

Even in the case of true Add-Ons\extensions, some do not understand that you are installing to a "portable" version of FireFox and will write files to the host which they might need.

"Is there some universal fix?"
No, unfortunately not Sad
