I think it would be useful to have some kind of standard letter people can send to developers containing information and suggestions to prepare their software for becoming portable. Things like explaining what PortableApps are and suggesting to offer command line switches for settings and load/save data locations.
For example: App.exe -s ..\..\Data\settings\App.ini for the settings file (instead of using the registry) and App.exe -d ..\..\..\Documents\ for the default load/save data folder.
Please understand many developers use registry to have multiple users on one PC be able to have their own settings so requesting these optional parameters would be a great help in making the Apps being more portable compliant 'out-of-the-box'.
While some scripts handle registry entries very well I think some additional command line arguments would make the development of a portable version easier. (For one, there would be no need for the launcher to clean up after the app, and that means the launcher can just exit after starting the app saving a bit of memory...
Could we as a community create such a letter together that will help developers to understand the changes needed?
To me, every app that I worked on with the author failed miserably. Photormin, Simutrans, etc.

Thats why clear and concrete information would help.
That was kinda harsh...

Photormin is still in early development, and maybe the author just stopped developing Simutrans at a bad state in its development. Maybe you just pick bad choices for apps.
Honestly, the developers of programs like Task Coach, BonkEnc, and SpeedCrunch are some of the nicest people I've ever 'met'.
And yea, what LOGAN said, too.
I'm starting to feel like I'm being bombarded by cyberbullies.

With BPBible, my brother was cooperative... but I had to add the custom path handling code!![Biggrin](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/biggrin.gif)

I've had no issues either. The developers of Daphne, DeKiBulle, PeaZip and Synkron all contacted me and answered questions I had. The developers of Synkron and Daphne made some major overhauls to their code to make portability easier by saving to an ini rather than the registry, and the devlopers of DeKiBulle said that functionality is most important currently, but they may look to finding a fully OSS sound library, so then their app can be fully OSS.
