Press Page Updated (2008-04-28) - Missing Anything?

I just updated the press page with stuff from the last couple months. New stuff from CNET, lifehacker, ZDNet, downloadsquad, Information Week, CHIP, Google. I think someone said we were recently download of the day on Download.com, too, but I couldn't find it. Anything else we're missing?

Download.com

Here it is. Looks like the same thing you have up from CNet Crave. Imagine that, CNet cross-posting news...

And wow! Didn't realize GnuCash Portable made it into Information Week!

Had That / Forgot

Yeah, I had that, just with the CNET Crave link instead of just CNET. Changed it.

I forgot to mention the GnuCash mention. That InfoWeek blogger really likes us and keeps an eye on our new stuff.

Although, they say PA is freeware for some reason.

Yeah, I often find that downloads sites like download.com or Softpedia often clump non-OSS and open source apps together under the "freeware" label. Whether they do that because of lack of knowledge, carelessness, or just laziness, I don't know. Blum

Well

download.com and the like are more for laypeople, not so much techies like us. The average user doesn't care whether the app is open source or not, mainly because he/she wouldn't know what to do with the source anyway. Blum So rather than confuse people by labeling apps "open source" or something, they just put it under freeware.

Open source is really just a subcategory of freeware, anyway. Just think of it as "freeware with benefits." Wink

The filing under Freeware

The filing under Freeware might have to do with them using PAD files which has no Open Source category. (Last time I checked long ago)

OpenOffice.Org Portable was

OpenOffice.Org Portable was mentioned on episode 92 of "The Lab With Leo Laporte", and they have a link and a brief description of it on their web page. I'm not sure what date that episode aired on, but the link is

http://www.labwithleo.com/freefile/windows?page=4

and it's approximately half way down the page.
