Registry

How come whenever I run a program off my flashdrive with portable apps like firefox it saves it to the registry? How is it considered possible if it saves to registry?

it removes ur settings from

it removes ur settings from the registry when you close the app.

Also, these apps don't claim to be stealth, they are portable. there will most likely be traces that you launched a portable application, but your personal data and all settings will be restored to the flash drive, and will leave any local installations of the application in tact.

A couple of points
  1. Whether your question is rhetorical, or you really want to resolve a problem, you should probably move it to the FirefoxPortable discussion. (Yes, you can move it there if you like by editing the top article.)
  2. If you would like the problem to be resolved, you will need to provide a bit more information, such as
    • Which registry keys contain different values after Firefox has closed down properly than before you started it? Be specific.
    • Which plugins are you running?
    • Is Firefox installed on that machine already?
  3. Which version of Firefox are you using?
  4. Which flavor of Windows are you using?

There are a couple of registry keys (and entries in the file system) that Windows creates on its own and that "normal" users cannot remove. That might explain some of what you are seeing. There are also plugins that are not very well behaved.

It is possible you have found a bug, but, again, the developers will need to have much more information before they can determine that.

You might get more information by reading the support articles for FFP.

Ok, firefox as example

Still and all, registry entries get tamed one at a time. If he really is seeing a registry entry after the program has closed that wasn't there before the program opened, he needs to be more specific about what registry entry it is, what the value is, and what application made it.

And yes, no fair looking to see if the registry entry is there while the program is running. It only counts as a problem if the program doesn't clean it up.

They may save to the

They may save to the registry, but it is cleaned up on exit. They also back up the registry before making changes.

Currently, there is no way to redirect the registry to the flash drive. And it probably would cause massive problems, even if we could redirect the registry to the drive.

If you find a left over registry entry, please specify the program and the registry entry left over so that we can deal with it.
