Is there a way to change the default size of the font code? Most of the time it is fine but when I drop down in screen size it can be difficult to fit to the screen.

F10 (If menu bar is not showing), Settings -> Styler Configurator... and then under Global Styles and Global override select a font size on the right and then select Enable global font size.
In future, try to check out the settings yourself (Though it may have been confusing if the menu bar was hidden), and check the official Notepad++ site and forums as well.
