Portable "Profiles"?

Seeing as this is one of the bigger portable apps (as in most downloaded), and it's portable, wouldn't it be a nifty feature to have 'Profiles'...

, like proxy settings and stuff? I go from my school to my IT center, and I always have to change the proxy settings. That'd be a really nice feature to have.
(I don't know where to put this.)

If you're only worried about proxies...

Then FoxyProxy would be a much better answer than profiles
http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/

If you switched profiles, then first, you have the extra complexity at startup time, but, more than that, you need to maintain multiple separate sets of configutarions, bookmarks, passwords, form data, cookies, etc.

Since the whole point of PortableApps is to carry all that with you, it seems counter-intuitive to break it.

FoxyProxy allows you to set up multiple proxy configutations, and to switch between them really easily.

I've always used SwitchProxy

I've always used SwitchProxy for the school proxy, but FoxyProxy has more features... I think I'll try it! It looks as though I could even get it to set the proxy to earth.ncc.adventist.edu.au:8080 if it's there, or no proxy if it's not... Good! Thanks Jimbo! Smile

I need multiple installations.

I need two versions of Firefox Portable: one for general web browsing with various plugins and extensions, and one with only TorButton and NoScript.

I am thinking that the way to do this is to install one in a FirefoxPortable folder and the second in a folder with a different name (TorrifiedFFP).

My question is how to make them appear distinct from each other in the PortableApps menu. Must I rename the executables? How do I change the "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" metadata?

Sorry, I could not find this in the docs or in the forum. All I find is information about running multiple instances of Firefox, or renaming the executable to get around Fascist administrators. I just want to know the "official PortableApps method" of having more than one installation of the same application.

PAM Mod

The PortableApps menu MOD 31 let you rename any link for your portable applications, so you can have (i.e.) one FFP named "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" and the other, "Mozilla Firefox, Tor Edition", among other features.

Alive and kicking!
