VLC: No Fast Forward

I cant fast forward. Whenever I do it restarts the entire media file. Music and video.

EDIT: After checking the original site for info it has come to my attention that this only applies to FLV. For more info see below.

If this error occurs with other formats to anyone else please let me know.

VLC Specific

You're best to ask in the VLC forums (if they have them), or #videolan on irc.freenode.net, as this sounds quite specific to the base app.

Must wait

For anyone else having this problem the solution is:

a) You can wait for the next release of VLC which should correct this problem.

b) You can download one of the VLC nightly builds which are a collection of WIP's that are generated on a daily basis as a way of testing ideas. The site highlights that no support is offered to the nightly builds and they are unstable.

personally I recommend option A so as to ensure a Stable version.

that wasn't the only problem ...

as it was you couldn't click on a later point in the video or audio, it would close up on you.

I get the same stinking

I get the same stinking problem. This also applies to real media files too. The whole foward/backword bar is hidden.

I understand real player is a dying format, but to say "this can play anything you can throw at it" I would have to ask if their pants frequently catch on fire.

I didn't know about VLC

I didn't know about VLC supporting real. Last time I looked it wasn't in the supported formats list.

+- Real
