Smithtech , or anyone else who might know...
I have a 1GB Cruzer Micro that I had successfully changed the autorun drive to launch applauncher.exe . I decided to try and use the Portable Startup utility rather than applauncher. I made the iso installed it and now the autorun drive is no longer seen as a CD drive. Any ideas on how to fix that, or is it broken?
UPDATE: You can recover the CD partition by using the older LPinstaller and a custom iso.
I think you can recover your Cruzer by downloading and running the launchpad installer from somewhere on the Sandisk site. I had played around with a couple of U3 drives and this always cured any problem and took it back to factory condition.
No guarantees but good luck

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Well, if it works, I'm saved, if it doesn't work, I'm dead, if I don't try, it's dead anyways.

Did you do anything to make the drive Vista compatible?
The latest Sandisk "make drive Vista compatible" thingy [LPinstaller/updater/whatever] changes the "CD" to a removable drive.
No more CD, no more auto run.

Warning, I believe the link in the post above will take you to just such a thingy
U3 LP installer 1.0.1.27
All the links I can find link to the same place:
http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.exe
No matter what the page may say about it's use or version.
There fore you might want to use an older version if you have access to one.

I thought by replacing the downloaded cruzer-autorun.iso with the custom one that wouldn't happen.
Maybe someone has the old files...
First you need to answer the question![Blum](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/blum3.gif)
Is this what you did?
i.e. use the newer program from Sandisk?
The new installer/updater/whatever thingy does more than put in a new .iso
It changes the drive!!!

Yes, I used the new installer. Followed the link from Smithtech's site.
Will the old installer change it back though?
No idea![Sad](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/sad.gif)

as another weird pov, I know that on my xp laptop, I always got a pop up that asked me to choose what I wanted to do, start portableapps, open folder, blah blah, and then clicking on the start portableapps I would then get the little icon on my lower right.
Now in my new vista laptop, I don't get the popup anymore and it automatically puts the little icon down there, ready for me to use.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
FWIW The current U3 Launchpad update will make the Cruzer Vista compatible and will change the CD drive to a write protected removeable drive which inturn will stop the autorun function.
To make the U3 drive a CD drive again requires installing an older version of the U3 Launchpad drive.

Ooops looks like I jumped the gun trying to help.
I have an old version of the launchpad installer though, it is version 1.0.0.20 if you are interested, not sure how to get it to you if you want it.
Regards NMC

I know this is an old thread, but I could not find a way to send PMs on this site.
This message is for NMC, dragonmage, or digitxp:
Do any of you still have the old LPInstaller.exe (v1.0.0.20)? I have been looking for it everywhere, and this is my last resort. If you still have it, please send it to:

Thanks in advance!
Postings get much more exposure than PMs.
Have you tried the http://www.u3community.com/ forum? If you go there look for KID52 postings. He has a website with lots of older Launchpads.

I just downloaded the latest installer from here,.. Installer
It still works under XP, I don't have Vista to test it on.
However, using the method of replacing the ISO no longer works, seems Sandisk has made changes to prevent this.
You can always reinstall the U3 menu, then use the U3 Shortcut creator to add the Portable Apps Menu to the U3 menu and set it to auto launch with the U3 menu.
Not the best way to do it, but it will work.
Will have to see in the other install methods still work.

Does the U3 menu still have the autostart function? I don't really want to use the U3 menu, but if I have to I might. It's just a pain to have 2 windows popup now.
Oh, and I'm on XP SP2
The U3 Vista upgrade removes that functionality when it changes the 1st drive type.
However, I believe that if the U3 key doesn't have the password function set the data portion of the key is immediately available when the key is plugged in so an autorun file on that portion of the drive will work, and can be used to invoke PAM.
The Vista upgrade runs on XP machines also, it is only necessary if you need to use the U3 key on a Vista machine.
There are two U3 specific forums you can try:

For downloading an older version of U3 Launchpad try this link:http://www.sandisk.com/driverdownload/download.asp?driverId=163

-Update-
Bottom link points to the Vista version also. Sorry.
